Samson Snyder Taken By Death
Orofino, Sept. 6 - Sampson Snyder, 77, among the best known citizens of Clearwater county, where he had resided for the last 54 years, died at his home in Orofino at 3 o'clock this afternoon. Death was attributed to a heart condition.
Owned Telephone System
Mr. Snyder organize the first telephone company in what is now Clearwater county, and operated the system from 1902 to 1923, then disposing of his interest to the Interstate Telephone company. At other times he was engaged in farming, owning and operating a hotel and a general store. At the time of his retirement he owned a garage.
Mr. Snyder was a 32nd degree Mason and was an affiliate of the Scottish Rite bodies of Lewiston, also being a member of Calam Temple of the Shrine. He was active in community affairs.
Survivors are his wife, three daughters and one son; Mrs. Virgie Perkins, Weippe; Mrs. Pearl Hadley, Spokane; Mrs. Lola Morrison, Palouse, and Eldon Snyder, Pierce; four brothers and four sisters; Albert Snyder, Kamiah; Henry Snyder and Mrs. Phoebe Carr, both of Orofino; John Snyder, Lewiston; Mrs. Stella Cooper, Mrs. Nettie Harmon, Mrs. Carrie Cooper and Blaine Snyder, all of West Virginia.
The body is at Shaw chapel with funeral arrangements pending, but probably to be held Saturday afternoon. Interment will be at Normal Hill Cemetery at Lewiston, where his son is buried.
